Land is more than soil—it is security, collateral, and generational wealth. Yet, for many Ugandan women, cultural norms and high registration costs make land ownership nearly impossible.
The Land Gap
Although Uganda’s laws permit women to own land, less than 20% of titled land is registered to women. Many women inherit land informally and risk losing it to male relatives.
A Groundbreaking Solution
In 2023, the Boss Babe Investment Club launched a program that allows members to pool savings and purchase land as a group. Over 80 women have successfully acquired land titles through this initiative, lowering individual costs and bypassing traditional barriers.
Case in Point
One member, Sandrah Kyomukama, joined the club to escape the insecurity of renting. By saving UGX 100,000 monthly with 15 other women, she was able to purchase a plot in Wakiso District and process a legal title within a year—something she once thought impossible.
Why It Works
Collective savings provide bargaining power, reduce risk, and create a built-in support network for women navigating the complex land titling process.
Looking Forward
Boss Babe continues to advocate for government support to simplify land registration and reduce costs so more women can secure this critical asset.
